From Habit to Freedom: Transcending Duality
How habits and beliefs shape our experiences, and how neutrality relates to inner freedom.

In mental activity and everyday life, the human brain tends to take the shortest and most efficient route. This process appears both in choosing the most direct route to work and in developing thought patterns connected with different situations, emotions, people and ideas. Over time, repeating particular actions or thought patterns leads to the formation of habits and behavioural patterns. This can establish a routine which, even when positive, can become a dependency, and when negative, a source of suffering.
Habits, Thought Patterns and Beliefs
The process through which persistent thought patterns lead to habits and actions is interconnected with the beliefs we carry. We use our beliefs to understand the world around us, assess other people and even define ourselves. Increasingly, we see how even positive beliefs can subject us to duality and limitations if we begin to regard them as absolute and unchangeable.
Conscious Practice and a Neutral State
Overcoming this duality is connected with conscious practice and attunement through beliefs. This process guides us towards a neutral mental state that allows our thoughts to exist without labels or definitions. In this way, we achieve freedom from the judgements and biases that would otherwise limit our ability to see the truth of things.
Every time we make an effort to avoid judging things as good or bad, and instead accept them simply as they are, in all their aspects, we step onto the path towards liberation. This affects our mental and physical harmony, as well as our spirituality.
Spirituality as Neutrality
True spirituality manifests as neutrality—the ability to remain centred without engaging with either pole of duality, without judging and without becoming attached. We need to understand that everything has its place and meaning, and that we cannot define every situation, person or idea.
Transcending Duality
The process of transcending duality and becoming free of definitions is the key to achieving inner peace, harmony and freedom. This is the path towards Moksha, towards true liberation. When you ask yourself what spirituality is, the answer is neutrality. This means being centred and taking no position. This is the path that leads to true bliss and union with the absolute.
