In an age of rapid change and a dynamic way of life, more and more people turn to ancient and wise practices to find balance and harmony in their lives. One such practice, deeply rooted in Eastern philosophy and spirituality, is the concept of the seven chakras. This unique model explores the relationship between a person’s physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.

Here, we examine how beliefs can shape and influence these energy centres in the human body. Chakras are considered points of energetic interaction that permeate our physical, emotional and spiritual aspects.

Muladhara: The First (Root) Chakra

Main functions: Survival. Safety. Sustenance. Home. Family. The sense of “I am”. Material acquisitions. Life force for physical action. The will to live in physical reality. Preservation of life. Money. Territoriality.

If you notice that too much of your thinking and action is directed towards “How can I earn more money?” or “Will this undertaking bring me enough income?” If you assess whether something would bring you material losses or gains. If you worry too much about your belongings or fear losing your possessions. If you spend a great deal of time planning how to guarantee your security and material provision in the future. If you divide people into those who have and those who do not.

If these states predominate in much of your thinking, this means you have a fixation and an imbalance in the first chakra; in other words, you need to strengthen your foundation. By writing affirmations, we turn our thoughts and words into reality more quickly.

Negative States and Beliefs

Memories of material losses; memories of occasions when our survival was threatened. Plans to guarantee our future security and material provision. Thoughts about material resources and possessions. The feeling that we are constantly under threat. Thoughts that the world is a dangerous place. “Fight or flight” states. Desires to stockpile possessions and money. Lack of money. Health problems. Loss of life force, sluggishness. A person is unable to exert an influence in physical reality. Anxiety. Inability to rest. Inability to leave the comfort zone.

Transforming Beliefs and Affirmations

  1. I live in security and material abundance.
  2. My physical survival is secured, and I acquire everything my body needs.
  3. I am safe.
  4. I am generous, and the Universe is generous towards me.
  5. I receive everything I need for my present place in life.
  6. I develop materially more and more.
  7. I develop my talents and contribute as much as I can to my own development and the common good.

  20. I live in peace and tranquillity.
  21. I love planet Earth.
  22. My country and my planet are my home.

Svadhishthana: The Second (Sexual) Chakra

Main functions: Joy. A sense of humour. Sexuality. A sense of understanding one’s own sex. Intimacy. Pleasures. Creativity. The ability to turn sexual energy into creative energy. Movement. Flexibility. Emotions. It determines the quality of love a person can experience towards the opposite sex. Desires. Sensory perception. Sensory exploration of the world. Fluidity.

If you constantly seek pleasures and wonder how to entertain yourself. If you constantly want sex and see life only as pleasures to pursue or painful experiences to avoid. If your thinking is lustful more than usual and appears in situations where the context is completely different, this means you have an imbalanced second chakra that is taking over the functions of the other chakras.

Negative States and Beliefs

Memories connected with rejected intimacy. Periods without touch and bodily acceptance. Sexual disappointments and bitterness connected with an intimate partner. Feelings of disgust towards sex, the sexual organs or closeness. Expressions of strong desires to satisfy the senses. The desire to eat solely for the taste. Sexual manipulation (seduction). Depression, guilt. Fear of expressing feelings. Fear of sexuality and relationships with the opposite sex. Lack of humour and taking life too seriously. Being easily unsettled emotionally. Inability to think clearly when feelings are strong. Insensitivity. Inability to connect emotionally with people.

We react emotionally instead of responding creatively. Low sexual desire, rejection of sex and rejection of its pleasures. Inability to reach orgasm. Premature ejaculation. Sex without feelings. Judgement of the opposite sex. Perversity. Inability to give and receive in balance. Intrusive sexual fantasies. Inability to change and fear of change. Taking on other people’s comments from the past, such as “Never change”.
